Big Draw 2018
The idea behind this year's activity was for the children to have fun creating a mural of a field of flowers through a series of dots, circles, spirals and splodges of different sizes. Herve Tullet was the originator of this idea. Long stretches of paper were laid out in the class rooms and each child had their own pot of paint and brush (or pastels or marker pens). The children moved around the paper while interpreting instructions such as "paint a dot" or "paint a larger circle".
Once the paper was full enough, the children were asked to step back and look at all the colourful shapes, many of which started to look like flowers. The children were then asked to focus on a particular area and develop existing shapes into flowers with petals, stems and leaves etc. Every child really enjoyed the activity and were proud of what they had achieved as a team in such a relatively short time.
